January --
- Saturday, 1/17/26 10:00 am -
12:00 pm -- Verlene will be
presenting a two-hour workshop, “Dorian Deep Dive”
for harp, piano, or guitar (or any instrument). We’ll
take a deep dive into Dorian mode, using four methods
of finding the Dorian scale. We’ll play 6 tunes -- 3
from traditional Irish repertoire and 3 modern tunes
to get familiar with the sound of Dorian. And we’ll
use chord progressions, both from the tunes, and from
common patterns for Dorian improvisation. Simple harp
arrangements of the 6 tunes are provided along with
lead sheets. And there is a guitar packet with guitar
arrangements in standard notation and tablature. Cost
of the workshop: $30 per person. Register here!
- Saturday, 1/24/26 10:00 am -
12:00 pm -- Verlene will be
presenting a two-hour workshop, “Understanding
Learning Styles” for any musician, student, or
teacher. It’s never too late to look into your “style”
of learning – Kinesthetic? Auditory? Visual? Right
brain? Left brain? Concrete? Abstract? All these and
more will be discussed along with tests you can take
to assess your style. Then, learn to use your
strengths to help build skills in those areas that may
have seemed elusive in the past. Teachers! You can use
this information to better understand how to use
different tools in your studio as you explore each
student’s learning style. Cost of the workshop: $30
per person. Register here!
- Sunday, 1/25/26 10:00 - 11:00
am -- Verlene will be providing music for the Foothills
Congregational Church service. This is a welcoming
church. Located at 461 Orange Avenue in Los Altos, CA.

February --
- Saturday,
February 7th, from 10 am–12 pm
pacific time I will be presenting a two-hour
online
workshop, “Arranging for Harp Ensemble” for
lever or pedal harp. In this
workshop, you will learn how to make an arrangement
that will keep all of your
ensemble members happy! Whether they are multi-leveled
players or all at the
same level, and whether all on one size harp or on
multiple size harps. I will use
Sibelius to demonstrate how a simple traditional tune
can be developed in a number
of ways for a variety of harp ensembles. Handouts for
the class include PDFs of
each of the harp ensemble arrangements demonstrated
during class. Cost of the
workshop: $30 per person. Register here!
- Saturday, February 14th, from 10 am–12 pm pacific
time I will
be presenting a two-hour online workshop, “Friendship
Songs for Valentine’s
Day” open to all instrumentalists and singers.
In this workshop, we’ll
learn non-romantic love songs for those who want to
honor the close friendships
in their lives. You will get a lead sheet, plus an
arrangement for lever harp,
and we’ll discuss how the lead sheet became a harp
arrangement, so you’ll get
more than just an addition to repertoire, but also a
general “how-to” for
arranging from a lead sheet. For guitarists, there is
a “guitar packet” with
guitar tab for guitar instrumental arrangements, or
you can play along using
chords from the lead sheet. Cost of the workshop: $30
per person. Register here!

March --
- Saturday, March 7th, from 11
am–1 pm pacific
time I will
be presenting a two-hour online workshop, “Two-Handed
Learning" for lever or pedal harp. Most harpists will learn a new piece either by
playing one hand at a
time, and then struggling to put the two hands
together, or both hands but very
slowly, and struggling to bring it up to tempo.
Although it is necessary to
work out fingerings for each hand separately, there is
a method to get both
hands playing at tempo from the start, called
“At-Tempo Chaining.” In this
workshop you’ll be given steps to follow and excerpts
from a harp arrangement
of a popular song that we’ll work through together. By
the end of the workshop,
you’ll have a strategy for learning the whole piece
with both hands up to tempo,
and you can apply the method to any new tune, or even
a tune you’ve been
struggling to learn! Cost of the workshop: $30 per
person. Register here!
- Saturday, March 14th, from 11
am–1 pm pacific
time I will
be presenting a two-hour online workshop, “St.
Pat's Pub Songs" open
to all instrumentalists and singers. In this workshop,
you'll learn 14 pub songs that are good for St. Pat's
Day as well as any time of the year. You'll get lead
sheets for some traditional sentimental songs, some
rowdy sing-alongs, a few modern tunes, and a few songs
that Bing Crosby made popular back in the day... We'll
cover how to play from each lead sheet, for harpists,
how to determine which notes need to be omitted, and
which can be handled with lever changes, and we'll
talk about some left hand approaches. Cost of the
workshop: $30 per person. Register here!
