Verlene's fourth solo recording features thirteen original songs and includes her jazzy arrangement of Gershwin's "Summertime" as well. Verlene says this about the CD's content: "The songs on this CD tell many stories – of winter and spring, pain and joy, dark and light. I have learned to appreciate the “art” of Persephone, and to begin to understand and accept all the seasons in my life." Peresphone's Art has a jazzy, bluesy upbeat style that will get you tapping your feet and singing along! The Verlene Schermer Song Sampler songbook includes four of these songs.
Verlene plays her Triplett folk harp on 6 songs, her Blessley cross-strung chromatic harp on 3, and her Camac electro-harp on 5. She also plays acoustic guitar on a few songs, and electric piano on one. Verlene is supported by Preston Carter on electric and string bass, and Don Frank on drums on 12 of the 14 songs. Also joining the "band" is percussionist Kelly Fasman, and saxophonist, Steve Steinberg. There are also cameo appearances by Jon Schermer, trombone, Linnette Bommarito, flute, and Michael Robinson, guitar synth. |
