Verlene's first solo recording features 11 of her original songs, in a variety of musical styles and instrumentation. The album title is drawn from a strong cut called "The Ostrich," a social lament on apathy. The songs shift stylistic gears from up-tempo rock flavored numbers to smoky jazz-infused ballads with a touch of the blues.
Verlene performs vocals, acoustic guitars, piano, keyboards, & folk harp. Guest artists: Linnette Bommarito - flute, Ken Feliciano - piano, Glenn Ichien - electric guitar, Nancy Moser - alto & tenor saxophone, Doug Pohorski - fretless electric bass, Dodger Posey - drums & percussion, Sani Sasmita - electric bass , Jon Schermer - trombone, Janet Witharm - cello .
"The album's most powerful moments belong to the mood numbers like "What's Making You Blue," and "Now I Know," where Schermer's expressive vocal abilities are at their finest."
